This is the longer, more detailed version of his autobiography written the year prior. For the full story and links to all four documents, see this page. Cedar Point

We are lucky to be an hour's drive from the world-class amusement park Cedar Point. We finally took the kids in October. The ride cameras aren't the best, but this one so perfectly captured our collective terror on the Magnum XL200... (Weird crop because I had to cut out their crappy auto-frame.) Me, just trying to figure out why I voluntarily got on this thing. She is willing to ride nearly any coaster, but she's not sure about this one.

Little Ghost 3D Print

I love this cute little Halloween ghost. No supports required, and if I scale down to 80% it prints in ~30 minutes on my Ender 3 Pro. Little Ghost by Gracewindale ('narnaa') on Thingiverse: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4966110 Gracewindale is now selling their models on myminifactory. They pulled or replaced their Thingiverse models, so Little Ghost on Thingiverse now has a hole in the top. When I downloaded the original without the top hole in 2021, the model was licensed CC-BY-NC-ND (no commercial…

Battle of Lake Erie

Two hundred ten years ago today (September 10, 1813), the Battle of Lake Erie was fought near the southern shore of the lake, not far from where I live. This returned control of the lake from the British Navy to the US Navy. It's crazy to think of British forces controlling waters near Ohio, but so it was. Commodore Oliver Perry used a white on blue battle flag bearing the words "Don't Give Up The Ship" which is now ubiquitous…

A Couple of Good Outdoor Books

Here are two book recommendations related to the outdoors and mountaineering. "Accidents in North American Climbing" is an annual publication from the American Alpine Club, with frank and interesting accounts of problems encountered during the report year. I discovered the Accidents annual publication when I worked at XOR Network Engineering in Boulder Colorado many years ago. Someone always kept the latest copy in the bathroom. "Last Breath: Cautionary Tales from the Limits of Human Endurance" by Peter Stark is a…
